Foundations
Tēnā Koutou, welcome to Dev Academy Foundations, your foundation block for Bootcamp.
Foundations is a learner-driven remote course that upskills and prepares you for our Bootcamp programme. It consists of two modules (core and tech) designed to be carried out full time for five weeks.
Dev Academy uses a flipped-classroom approach, where you as the learner are responsible for your learning journey. Rather than provide you with the knowledge and answers, we facilitate you to think critically about how to solve problems, seek solutions and overcome obstacles. To do this, we provide a framework of assessments to guide your learning. The assessment framework enables you to demonstrate evidence of your study and achievement of the learning outcomes. However, as explained in the Course Overview, assessment is unobtrusive and designed to be a back-and-forth with your facilitators throughout your learning journey, rather than a pass-or-fail system.
There is a lot more emphasis on co-creation of learning between learners, facilitators and peers than in traditional academic programmes. As you progress into Bootcamp, this will result in more individualised learning that matches your needs and aspirations.
Success in this programme depends on your motivation and organisation as a learner. As part of the course, you will reflect on your learning to help realise your learning targets and what you expect to do to meet your targets. Reflection is a core part of learning and will help develop your skills of setting and achieving your targets in the future, as well as helping to become more aware of how you work and learn.
