Foundations

Tēnā koutou, welcome to Dev Academy Foundations.

Foundations is your preparation for Bootcamp. It runs for six weeks and is done remotely, at your own pace. The first five weeks cover Core and Tech content. The final week is for revision, rest, and optional stretch material.

What you'll do

There are two modules each week: Core and Tech.

  • Core covers human skills — things like learning practice, reflection, and self-awareness.
  • Tech covers programming — terminal, Git, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

You work through the sprints in order. Each sprint tells you what to do and when.

How learning works here

Dev Academy uses a flipped-classroom approach. That means you drive your own learning. Facilitators are here to support you — not to hand you the answers.

You will reflect regularly on what you're learning. Reflection is built into every sprint. It helps you track your progress and understand how you work best.

Assessment

There are seven assessed tasks across Foundations. Every assessed task is clearly marked in the handbook.

Assessment is a back-and-forth process. You submit work, get feedback, and refine it. It is not pass-or-fail.

Co-creation

As you move through Foundations and into Bootcamp, your learning becomes more individualised. Facilitators, peers, and you work together. The more you put in, the more you get back.
