Programme Structure
This programme is significantly self-directed. You will be nurtured and supported by an experienced, skilful team of facilitators throughout the process. You will have regular catch-ups and evaluations with them via video calls, audio, and text messaging apps.
Sprints
A sprint is a term from the Agile software development method. Typically it means "a predetermined time frame within which the team completes sets of tasks from the Backlog." In Foundations, we use 'sprint' to define a block of work.
There are five sprints in Foundations. Each sprint has content from both the Human Skills and Tech modules.
📚 Full-time students
Students should treat Foundations like a full-time job. If you miss a day, you'll need to catch up.
- It will require about 8 hours a day of focus and effort
- Expect around 36 - 40 hours of work per sprint
- You will have one week for each sprint.
🕰️ Part-time students
Students need to fit in the Foundations work around other commitments, like work and family.
- You will have two weeks for each sprint
- Plan to dedicate around 20 hours per week to studying in order to complete the work to a good standard
Common to all students
We encourage all our students to communicate and reach out for help from each other throughout Foundations and have a strong emphasis on a tuakana/teina or student-teaching-student culture. It strengthens everyone's learning when we lean on each other and learn together.
You will have access to an online recorded tech workshop at the beginning of each sprint and a Homegroup check-in with your facilitator during the sprint. You should also maintain a high level of communication with your Facilitator throughout the sprint.
